Nintendo has decided to host an event ahead of the Tokyo Game Show 2011 in order to say a few words about the Nintendo 3DS and the company’s future plans regarding the portable gaming device. We will begin with the so-called extended slide pad, a nice add-on to the Nintendo 3DS which does exactly what its name says.
This slide pad will enable more controls in various games and it will allow you to take full advantage of the Nintendo 3DS gaming capabilities. Not all games are going to support the extended slide pad, however we do know that its release date is December 10th in Japan, while its price tag is aroundВ В ВҐ1,500 or about US $20.
At the moment there are no details whether the Nintendo 3DS slide pad add-on is also coming to the US, but we believe that it should leave Japan sometime during early 2012. Nintendo is looking to launch several games that will support the slide pad and they include Monster Hunter 3 (December 10th release date), BioHazard Revelations (early 2012), Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D (December 2011), AceCombat 3D Cross Rumble (December 2011), Dynasty Warriors VS (early 2012), and Kingdom Hearts 3D (unannounced release date).
Nintendo’s slide pad will require only one AAA battery, however, it will not improve the battery life of the 3DS.
The company’s President and CEO, Satoru Iwata, has also announced a new version of the Nintendo 3DS: Misty Pink. The color of the new 3DS is obviously pink, and contrary to popular belief, almost 50% of Nintendo DS users are female so the ladies needed a reason to upgrade their portable gaming device.
The Misty Pink Nintendo 3DS release date is October 20th in Japan for the very same price as other 3DS versions like Flare Red and Aqua Blue.
Satoru Iwata has also talked about the long-expected Nintendo 3DS firmware update that will finally bring some already detailed features including 3D video capture. Although the Nintendo 3DS comes with two cameras on the back and a 3D touchscreen, 3D video recording hasn’t been enabled so far. Well, you’re finally getting what you paid for along with a new Nintendo eShop, and improved Nintendo Street Pass Mii Plaza.
The Nintendo 3DS firmware update doesn’t have an exact release date, but Mr. Iwata confirmed that it’s coming soon.
