Apple is not going to be present at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012, but this doesn’t mean that the company will go through a quiet month. No, not at all, as Kara Swisher is reporting that the Cupertino-based firm will held a media event in late January. The source has confirmed that it’s not going to be a minor event, nor a big, but it’s medium-sized, though I’ve always said that some people put too much emphasis on how big are Apple’s events.
Consumers will be disappointed to hear that Apple’s event will not consist of the iPad 3 announcement, nor the launch of the next-generation Apple TV or the company’s attempt to reveal a new kind of TV technology. Instead, Apple is focusing on “the media.” According to Kara Swisher, the event will be presented byВ Eddy Cue, theВ Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services who also introduced “The Daily” application for the iPad.
If Mr. Cue will be there, then this means that the Apple media event of January 2012 will consist of iBooks, the iBookStore, and publishing deals with the writers. The company has been accused of striking illegal deals with the writers and publishers, a fact which has affected ebooks prices and sales. So far, Cupertino hasn’t had too much trouble in this department, but the event suggests that Apple is looking to change something, probably because it doesn’t want to receive any more negative attention from the press.
Apple’s event will not take place in Cupertino, it will be held in New York and the exact date hasn’t been announced yet. A new Store has been opened in the Grand Central Terminal, Manhattan, while the Store on Fifth Avenue, New York has also been revamped. Even so, we doubt that the event will take place in either of these stores so the location will be announced soon.
The iPad 3 release date is expected for April 2012, while the Apple TV 3 launch is expected to take place in late 2012. Apple’s upcoming tablet is expected to run on a quad-core A6 processor, 9.7-inch Retina display with 2048 x 1536 resolution, dual-cameras, and to support 4G LTE technology for AT&T and Verizon.
If Apple will indeed held a media event, then expect details about the iBookStore, iCloud, publishing, iBooks, and the iTunes Store as well. The details are still scarce, however, we will hear more news towards the end of the month.
