FileSonic Shuts Down File Sharing Services, Turns Itself Into A Personal Web Storage Solution

After the FBI and the Department of Justice have shut down the Megaupload.com website, it seems like other file sharing website are scared of them. The owner and the employees of Megaupload have been arrested and charged for internet piracy, money laundering, and conspiracy and if it happened to a website, then it can happen to other sites of this kind as well. FileSonic has announced that it’s shutting down all file sharing capabilities of the website.

From now on, users will no longer have access to the files of other users and FileSonic has become an online storage solution. If you don’t have a place to store your files or where to keep your backup, then FileSonic is the perfect place to do just that. Although it hasn’t motivated the decision, it’s clear that website is rightfully afraid that the history might repeat itself.

Another popular file-sharing website called Uploaded.to has also recently taken a measure against the FBI and the Justice Department by shutting down the access of the people who live in the United States. This means that other file sharing sites might follow the same example in the near future and that the Feds have succeeded in their war against pirates.

Well, there is still the case of torrent sites which represent the main reason why SOPA and PIPA were created, however, not even these two laws can help the FBI shut down The Pirate Bay or other websites of such profile. Now that SOPA and PIPA have been dismissed in their current forms, it remains to be seen what new laws the senators will propose in the near future.

Although we don’t condone piracy, we still believe that Megaupload has been shut down illegally because it’s not the owner’s or website’s fault for what users are uploading. It’s user-generated content, and like said, you cannot held the website’s owners or employees responsible for the actions of the users.

Many internet users have expressed their discontent after Megaupload was turned off, however, there is nothing they can do. For the moment, the FBI hasn’t announced what will happen with the files which were uploaded by the users on the site and if the premium users will get their money back, and it’s very likely that they won’t get them back.

We remind you that Megaupload’s owner has said that he’s not guilty and that he should be allowed to get out on bail until the trial will begin.
