For the full year of 2011, Samsung was the company that shipped the most smartphone units – a record number of 300 million units, writes Bloomberg.

Samsung haven’t published the official number of smartphone units they sold in the fourth quarter of 2011, by Strategy Analytics estimates that we are dealing with a figure around 36.5 million units, so the Asian company was not to far behind Apple’s performance. Based on the same data sheets from Strategy Analytics, Bloomberg reports that throughout the entire 2011, thanks to the huge success of the Galaxy line-up, Samsung was the company that shipped the most number of smartphones globally, setting a new record of 300 million units.

In 2012 Samsung plans to spend over $22 billion in order to increase their chipset and display panels production.
