Steve Jobs Is World’s Second Greatest Inventor, Shows MIT Survey

In a study conducted by the famous  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Thomas Edison was ranked the world’s greatest inventor of all time, while Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, ranked right behind the inventor of the electric light bulb.
When asked who is the world’s greatest inventor of all time, 54% of the respondents voted for Thomas Edison, the inventor of the electric light bulb, phonograph and the motion picture camera. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc and famous for his iPhone and iPad devices, was ranked second with 24% of the total of votes. Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the first telephone, is on the third position of the world’s greatest inventor of all time top, with 10% of the votes. Marie Curie comes behind Graham Bell, a scientist famous for her researches in radioactivity field, and Mark Zuckerberg, the young founder of Facebook ranked fifth.
Thomas Edison left behind a legacy of almost 2,000 patents, while Steve Job’s inventions, the iPhone, iPod and iPad, are very popular among the youths, which managed to revolutionize the way we communicate.
1,010 Americans aged between 16 and 25 responded to the survey. The research is part of the Lemelson-MIT program, which as goal “celebrating inventors who have turned their ideas into accomplishments.”
Steve Jobs was born in San Franciscon on February 24th, 1955 and passed away last year, on October 5th, after loosing the battle with cancer. His natural parents, Joanne Schieble and Abdulfattah Jandali were students and not married when Steve Jobs saw the sun light. They gave him for adoption to Paul and Clara Jobs.
Together with Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs founded Apple in 1978. Jobs had a determinant contribution to Apple’s continuous ascension on the stairs of the world’s best IT&C companies. By the end of last year, Steve Jobs was named man of the year by the famous Financial Times magazine. He was considered one of the most influential characters in the world of computers and in the entertainment industry.
Together with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Jobs helped popularize the personal computer in the late ’70s. In early ’80s, while he was still working for Apple, Jobs one of the first who figured out that the mouse-controlled user interfaces can provide a massive commercial success.
After he lost the battle for power with Apple board of directors, in 1985, Steve Jobs founded NeXT, a company that was developing a computer platform focusing on higher education and business market areas. Apple acquired NeXT in 1997 and this move brought Jobs back in the company he founded.
